The festival of Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashmi and celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm by the Hindu people all over the India.

It falls every year in the month of September or October before twenty days of Diwali festival.This year Dussehra 2017 is celebrated on 30th September 2017.

Vijayadasami or Dussehra celebrations added processions to a river or ocean front that carry clay statues of Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha, and Kartikeya, accompanied by music and chants, and also the images are immersed in the water for dissolution and a goodbye.

It is celebrated by the Hindu people in the happiness of winning of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana.People celebrate this festival by following lots of rituals and pooja ceremony. Religious people and devotees keep fast for the whole day. Some people keep fast to only first and last day (9th day)however some people keep fast for all nine days and worship Goddess Durga to get blessings and power.

In the  India states, this festival is known as Navaratri (nine days) and involves around the worship of the goddesses Lakshmi and Sarasvati puja. Lakshmi is associated with good luck and wealth, and Sarasvati is linked with wisdom and fertility.

The festival is a time for enjoying with friends and relatives, and houses are decorated with colorful displays of toys and images of gods. In Gujarat, there are nine days of music and dancing or garba.
Dussehra celebrates the Hindu god Rama’s victory over the danger king Ravana and the triumph of good over evil killed. The epic Ramayana tells the story of Lord Rama who wins the lovely Sita for his wife, only to have saved her by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka.Ravana plays an important role in the Ramayana.
